Car Audio ELAC Discovery Series DS-S101-G Music Server Roon Essentials
The Elac Discovery DS-S101 music server works on the Roon Essentials platform and is still an exceptional and up-to-date product on the market even after several years since its launch. It allows you to manage, endlessly browse the world of music across all available sources (linked to each other in the metadata library) and play it back in the Roon Essentials environment, without contaminating your audio system with the computer necessary for Roon. The Discovery DS-S101 is the core for Roon Essentials and the endpoint at the same time. From a user and technical point of view, it behaves like a regular hi-fi component, thus catering to users who consider the presence of a computer in the audio chain undesirable.
Elac is one of Roon Labs LCC's first partners. Roon Essentials is created exclusively for use in the Discovery DS-S101 server. This is a lightweight paid version of Roon, so it does not include some of the advanced features of Roon Essentials. On the other hand, the Roon Essentials license for the Elac Discovery server is included in the price of the hardware and does not require any additional fees for a monthly or unlimited subscription, as in the case of the full version of Roon. The Elac Discovery DS-S101 unit is a multi-brand and multi-room device. It can be used as a source server for almost any number of compatible Roon Ready components within the range of the same network, but it is also a Roon End Point. That is why the DS-S101 is equipped with three completely independent outputs (2x RCA, 1x Toslink/coax). In an autonomous, non-networked hi-fi setup, it will perform the function of a regular streamer with the possibility of operation on two other devices.
The latest update 1.7 fixes minor bugs, but at the same time significantly expands the functionality of the device with new options.
